1960s Retro Fashion
The 1960s was a developmental stage in the fashion world. Ever since Mary Quant had created the mini skirt, women everywhere changed old-fashioned 1950s clothing into a new, mod style. These are the most popular trends in 1960s retro fashion.
Pillbox Hat
The pillbox hat was a growing trend thanks to first lady Jackie Kennedy. This small hat with a flat crown and no brim was worn with double-breasted brightly collared dress coats and kitten heels. Its popularity increased in the early 60’s and was worn throughout every fashionable city at the time. The pillbox hat basically destroyed the trend of large brim hats in the late 1950s.
Mini Skirts
Mary Quant created the biggest fashion trend bravely when she made the mini skirt. This was a courageous mark in the world fashion since its short length brought about much controversy. The mini skirt trended in the mid 1960s when go-go dancing became a popular career for young women. The skirts were either black or neon in color to match sleeveless shirts and long dangle earrings.
A-line Shift
The shift dress first appeared in 1960 and had floral patterns on it perfect for summer weather. In the mid 1960s, the dress became a single color and was a popular fashion piece for women of all ages. The shift dress was part of the mod fashion revolution and was considered the focal point of style. Soon came a-line skirts, which provided a bit more coverage than the mini, but was just as chic.
