How to Revive Retro Fashion

Retro fashion is a phrase used to describe fashion from the 1960s and 1970s. Over the last several years, retro fashion has made a comeback in a big way. More stores are selling clothing, accessories and shoes that are reminiscent of these eras. To revive your own wardrobe and make it more retro, there are a few simple steps you can take.

Things You'll Need to Revive Retro Fashion:

Bold-colored clothing
Psychedelic print clothing
Long necklaces
Bangle bracelets
Big, dangling earrings
Knee-high boots
Baby-doll dresses
Mini skirts
Skinny jeans
Stretch pants
False eyelashes
Bolder makeup
Hairstyle change

  1. Search through your closet. Do you have any articles of clothing or pairs of shoes that have been stored away because you thought you would never wear them again? Go through your closet and pull out anything that resembles the retro fashion eras. Items could include handbags, boots, skirts, shirts, sweaters, scarves and headbands.

  2. Go shopping. Stop by your local vintage clothing stores and thrift stores. Generally, both offer numerous retro fashion items for cheap prices. eBay is another location where you can find great deals on vintage clothing items including dresses, shoes, pants, hats and coats.

  3. Change your hairstyle and beauty style. Retro hairstyles involve bangs, and the most common are the bold, chunky bangs that sit just below the eyebrow. Retro makeup is bolder as well, so try using vibrant colored eye shadows and lipsticks. False eyelashes were popular in the 60s and 70s and provide a dramatic retro look for day or night.

  4. Wear prints and colors. If you want the revived retro look, do not be afraid of colors or prints. Retro-style dresses can provide this look, paired with knee-high boots in black, white or dark brown.

  5. Use big jewelry. Whether it is a long necklace, bold, chandelier-style earrings, multiple bangles or rock-sized rings, retro jewelry provides the finishing touches to your vintage outfit.
