About Borehole Drilling Equipment

There are a few different techniques in deep earth drilling, such as geothermal, water well and borehole. Borehole drilling involves a narrow shaft that has been burrowed into the ground, either horizontally or vertically, with the use of a drilling rig or a hand-held rig.

Borehole Drilling

In borehole drilling, a narrow horizontal or vertical shaft is constructed to bore into the ground through the use of a drilling rig or a hand-held rig. This type of drilling is useful for a variety of projects, the main type being water, oil or gas extraction but also in exploring for minerals, measuring underground temperatures or assessing environmental sites.

Equipment

A lot of equipment is involved in borehole drilling. First, drilling requires power. Unfortunately, much drilling is performed in rather remote areas so a power source must be used. Other required equipment includes drill bits and pipes, mud pumps, mixers and high pressure injectors.

Borehole Drilling Equipment Manufacturers

The production of borehole drilling is a specialized field. As such, there are only a handful of major companies that focus on producing the pertinent equipment. These are listed below.

  • Consallen Group: This company designs and manufacters borehole drilling equipment, specifically focusing on multipurpose rigs for the purpose of extracting water, sampling soil or locating oil sites. In addition, Consallen manufactures related water well equipment like pumps and storage/treatment tools.

  • Hydra-Fab Manufacturing, Inc.: Hydra-Fab manufactures rigs that specifically offer EPA-approved 13- or 16- horsepower gas engines and 10- horsepower diesel engines with a unique electronic ignition technology and built-in tool tray. Other features in their products include an adjustable beam mast and optional remote controlled winch.

  • Drill2Water produces a wide range of water well drilling equipment. Detailed equipment offered includes a variety of bits - drill, step, claw, chevron and tricone - as well as drill pipes and drill mud (lubricant).
