About Return Address Labels

Any mail that is going to be sent out should include a return address. This is especially important if the enclosure includes checks or personal information. If the letter is unable to be delivered to the mailing address it will be returned to you.

Information Included

Return address labels can be special ordered and personalized with monograms or designs. They will be attached to the upper left corner of the envelope before mailing a letter. The first line of the return address label should include your name. This could be your first and last name, last name or initials and last name. You may also be given the option to be addressed by a prefix. If you run a business, the name of your business could be listed instead of your name. The second line should include your current house or apartment number and street name. If you have a post office box this number can also be listed instead of your home address. The third line needs to include your city, state and zip code.

Importance of Using

Using address labels is very important and should be attached to any piece of mail you send. If a letter is undeliverable it will be sent back to the return address found on the envelope. It is very important that you do not use return labels from your old address, as you may not be reunited with your mail. If have written the address wrong on an envelope, the post office will know who to return the mail to. Without a return label your mail will not make it back to you. If you are paying bills and sending checks it is of utmost importance to always attach a return label before mailing.
