About Teeth Straightening
There are several options available to straighten the teeth. The method one may choose depends on several factors such as age, budget and how severely crooked the teeth are. Common methods used to straighten the teeth include braces, aligners and porcelain veneers.
Braces
Braces are the most common method used to straighten teeth. They work to correct crooked teeth, overbites, underbites and any other problems with the teeth and jaw. The length of time it takes for braces to straighten the teeth depends on the individual person and how crooked the teeth are starting out. Braces can be porcelain, ceramic or metal, and come in a wide variety of colors. Many adults may choose to wear clear braces for a more discreet look. Once the braces come off, a retainer that is fitted to the individual's mouth is worn to prevent the teeth from going back to their original position.
Aligners
Aligners work by placing a clear molding over the individual's teeth. These aligners work well for closing any small gaps or spaces between the teeth, as well as spacing out teeth that are crowded together. Aligners are not designed to straighten out teeth that are extremely crooked and out of place.
Porcelain Veneers
While porcelain veneers are not made to straighten out crooked teeth, they may be used to give the illusion of straight teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed over the front surface of the teeth to make the teeth appear straight. They may also help to improve the shape and color of the teeth.
