How to Build a Muffler Shop

Automotive Muffler Repair

Repairing a broken or damaged muffler is necessary in order to ensure the safety and efficiency of your vehicle. Although the process may seem difficult to many, as long as you research thoroughly and take the appropriate steps, your muffler can be as good as new without the help of a professional.

Things You Will Need:

  • Car jack

  • Tool

  • Power drill

  • Drywall screw

  • Metal plates

  • Welding gun

  • Muffler repair kit

  1. Secure your vehicle so that it is high off of the ground. In order to do this, use a car jack to hold it into place. The worse thing that could happen is for your car to fall down when you are working on it. Double check the security of the vehicle placement before moving forward.

  2. Listen for a rattling sound. In order to do this precisely, take one of your tools and place it on the actual muffler of your car. While the engine is running, move the toll around different placements of the muffler to determine where the sound is coming from.

  3. Create a small hole at the location where the sound is coming from. This is necessary as a temporary fix. Place a large screw into the hole until you are able to have it entirely replaced.

  4. Attach metal plates over larger areas that are damaged, broken or corroded. In order to ensure that these plates are attached securely, use a welding gun for assurance.

  5. Use a repair kit for the smaller damaged areas. This includes sealing these areas to fix the minor problems.
