Best Lures for Salmon Fishing

Salmon are attracted to flashy, colorful fishing lures that resemble the movements of small fish. The spoon lures, the spinner lures and the plug wobbling lures are some of the best types of lures that are used for salmon fishing.

Spoon Lures

  • The spoon lures are concaved, oblong oval lures that are attached to the hook on the fishing rod. The oblong spoon lure is made of reflective, painted metal.

  • The spoon lure is designed to resemble a small fish and to mimic its fluttering movements as it is pulled through the water with the fishing rod.

Spinner Lures

  • The spinner lures are also called the spinnerbaits. They resemble small fish in their appearance and their motion.

  • Spinners lures create powerful vibrations in the water that alerts the salmon to their presence.

Plug Lures

  • Plug lures are solid, rigid lures the have many hooks.  They are painted with reflective paint to attract the salmon.

  • The wobbling plug lure consists of two separated pieces that are connected by a hinge. The wobbling plug lure flutters back and forth, which attracts the salmon's attention and creates vibrations.

Lure Colors

  • The color of the lure is the key when you are choosing lures.  All colors are visible at 50 feet.  In the deeper waters use the ultra violet and glow lures in greens, blues and purples colors which are more acceptable to the salmon.

  • The mature king salmon are more acceptable to white lures and yellow, red or orange lures should be used in shallow waters.
