Best Supplements with the Most Nutritional Value

At times it may be difficult to get all nutrients through a diet. Some people may turn to supplements to assist them in getting all of the proper vitamins and minerals into their body. How do you know which supplements actually work and which ones your body does not need?

Vitamin D

The best source of vitamin D is the sun. The skin actually makes vitamin D after being exposed to the sun for as little as 15 minutes. However, during the winter and in cloudy climates it may be hard to get the proper amount of vitamin D. Many people may choose a vitamin D supplement in order to get the nutrition they need.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is usually found in citrus fruit such as oranges, grapefruits and tangerines. During cold and flu season many people up their intake of vitamin C to almost 3,000 mg per day. Extra vitamin C can be taken in the form of a pill or through specific vitamin C drink mixes.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is crucial to the body for making energy. Sometimes when a patient suffers a particularly long surgery or has a condition that makes them less energetic, they may be prescribed a vitamin B12 shot. Vitamin B12 is also available in pill form.

Folic Acid

Folic acid has been linked to a reduction in colon cancer risk. Folic acid can be found in many multi vitamins and on its own. This supplement usually comes in the form of a pill.
