Best Way to Send a Fax to a Bank

When dealing with a bank for a loan, a mortgage or another financial reason, there is usually much paperwork involved. To save time and trips to the bank, banks often allow customers to send paperwork via fax. Avoid sending personal information such as account numbers or routing numbers in the fax.

  1. Find out the bank's fax number. You can do this by calling the bank and asking a bank teller or by visiting the bank's website.

  2. Gather all your documents, and place them in the order they need to be sent. You may want to number the pages in case they are sent out of order during the fax.

  3. Create a cover page for the fax. The cover page should state the bank's name, your name and the person you are sending the fax to. You can also type the subject of the fax if desired. The cover letter should be the first page of the document that is sent.

  4. Place the documents into the fax tray. Read the fax machine manual to determine which way the documents are sent. Some send the top page first; others send the bottom first. Arrange your documents and cover letter accordingly.

  5. Use the keypad on the fax machine to type in the fax number. Click the send button. The documents will feed through the fax machine in the order they are sent. When the documents have finished sending, the fax machine will print a confirmation page.

  6. Call your bank to confirm that the fax was received and that the proper documents have been sent.
