Best Way to Use a Jackhammer
A jackhammer is a tool that is used to break up slabs of concrete, tar, asphalt, brick and other hard surfaces. Since this tool is very powerful, it is important that a person knows how to handle its force. Improper use of this tool can cause back pain or fatal injuries. You must know how to properly use a jackhammer.
- Protect your eyes and hearing. Before using the jackhammer, it is important to wear safety glasses and ear protection. The glasses prevent debris from coming in contact with your eyes and the ear protection should be worn because the drilling can get really loud.
- Properly position the body when using the jackhammer. Always keep your legs slightly bent at the knees and keep the jack hammer in the center of the body. Never have the jackhammer tool leaning away from the body or towards the body. It should always be aimed in a vertical position.
- Keep the air hose behind you. When drilling with the jackhammer, always keep the air hose away from the drill to prevent any accidental punctures. Once the hose has been damaged, the jackhammer is longer functional.
- Do not overexert yourself. The jackhammer is a very forceful device and does most of the work for you. The only thing that you should focus on is making sure that your body and jack hammer are positioned correctly and that you keep a very firm grip on the handles.
- Power off and unplug when not in use. Once you have finished a drilling task or no longer need to use the jackhammer, be sure to turn in the off position and unplug the cord from the power source until needed again.
