Best Ways of Cleaning School Playground Equipment

There are many different ways to clean your school playground equipment. A school playground may have trees surrounding it which can make the equipment quite dirty from natural occurrences like leaves falling in the fall or even having to deal with sap from maple trees near by. Luckily, there are simple steps that you can take to keep your equipment nice and clean.

  • Check for splinters or rust spots. Sand away splinters on wooden equipment and wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust. Scrape and sand rusty areas, touch up with rust inhibiting paint.

  • Sweep all flat areas around the equipment to remove dirt and debris. Be on the lookout for glass and other sharp items that could injure a child.

  • Use gum remover to remove tough stains such as gum and tree sap on your equipment. Gum remover can be purchased at a hardware or home improvement store. Follow instructions on the package for use.

  • Goof Off works on even tougher stains such as spray paint and permanent marker. Again, follow instructions on the package for use.

  • Test a small area of your equipment before applying cleaning solutions to the entire area. This is to ensure that your equipment will not fade or become damaged by the chemicals.

  • Use warm, soapy water to clean equipment that is lightly soiled and equipment that has been previously cleaned with chemicals. This will remove any chemical residue that may remain. Pay special attention to handles. Scrub the entire area well.

  • Rinse with clean water from a hose or bucket. Dry the equipment with a towel, especially flat areas where water tends to pool.
