Best Ways to Maintain a Laundromat Machine

Failure to maintain a laundromat machine can have a number of negative consequences for the public and your laundromat. This includes the risk of reduced performance, plus the possibility of the machines breaking down. Worse yet it can become a breeding ground for dangerous microbes or become a fire hazard.

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your laundromat equipment to ensure that you are using the proper methods when maintaining your particular model of machines. This is the best way to get the longest life from your equipment.

  • Maintain the outward appearance of your machines by wiping down the exterior with a damp cloth. Inspect the exterior to ensure that there is no visible damage.

  • Routinely clean the water filter inlet screens of dirt and debris. If necessary replace these screens.

  • Check hoses on a regular basis to ensure they are not damaged, broken or leaking. Looking these over routinely will help you to prevent flooding that can occur if hoses are damaged. When checking the hoses, also check the shutoff valve by turning it off and then back on again. This valve will need to be turned off to stop water flow in the event of a flood. Checking it will ensure that it is working properly if it is ever needed and lessens the chances that it will be stuck.

  • Check all connections and joints for leaks.

  • Perform a bi-annual visual inspection of the belts that connect the washer drum and the motor. If they are worn out, replace them.

  • Regularly clean the drum using a washing machine cleaner.

  • Ensure that all dryers have proper ventilation and that there is no buildup of lint or other debris around or beneath it.

  • Check your dryers' vents and lint screens at least once a day to ensure that they are free of lint build-up. Lint is one of the leading causes of clothes dryer fires.
