Best Ways to Tear Out a Bathroom for Remodeling
Remodeling any part of your home can be a time consuming task. The bathroom is a common challenge for many homeowners. Because the bathroom has many large items, it is important that a homeowner follow a few simple steps when remodeling the bathroom.
First, decide what items you will be replacing. Many people remodel their bathrooms without taking out the toilet, bathtub, shower or sink.
Remove all decorative items from the wall. You don’t want to accidentally break something in the process of remodeling. At this beginning stage, you should also take down any mirrors, large or small. Again, you don’t want these to get broken.
Once the walls are cleared of décor, remove any hardware like hooks, racks, or towel bars.
Remove any large items to give yourself room to remodel. Take out the sink, toilet, shower and/or tub. Be sure to turn off the water to these units before removing them. Placing a towel inside the hole from the toilet will prevent smells and accidents.
Depending on your doorway or closets, you may need to remove the doors or door trim. You will also want to remove any lights and electrical coverings.
If you have wall paper, or tile, you will want to remove these items. As you remove tile, be careful not to let them drop in the tub if you are not going to replace the tub. Broken tile can damage the porcelain.
Note: If you are going to replace wall and mirror décor, towel racks, sinks, showers, etc. be sure to donate your old ones to you local Goodwill, Salvation Army or other charity store. You might also sell it or give it away for free on Craigslist. Always remember that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Once you have everything removed from the walls. The floor is next. Remove the old carpeting, laminate or tile. If you have ceramic floors and they are still in good condition, you may want to consider leaving these as they can last for a long time and save you money on your remodeling.
