Brick Patio Ideas

A great looking patio is a thing to behold. Today you can literally have just about any design you want. The colors and styles are almost endless and there is more coming every day. Then of course there are so many things you can put in or on a patio the options are almost limitless.

• Choose your brick type and style. Today you can choose just about any type of brick you want. They can be made to have special effects such as textured or glazed and a multitude of colors. They can be made out of shale, concrete, clay or slate. The sizes they come in can also be varied to suit your needs.


• Bricks are often not as durable as other products. Keep in mind that bricks can actually breathe and can change slightly over a period of time. In order to maintain the original look you may need to surround them with concrete, edging or treated timbers. If the patio is going to get a lot of traffic and use or be in extreme weather or have lots of weight prepare it. You can use a glaze to set it and help protect from cracking or perhaps put in a bonding material between the bricks.


• Unique design patterns can be done. There are now a great many designs you can place the actual bricks in for effect. Most patios are laid out in basket weave or herringbone designs. There are the traditional square and rectangular patterns as well.


• Use the bricks for built in specials on the patio.  The list of what you can install on your patio made exclusively out of bricks is endless. What do you want? Tables, seats, raised fountains, barbeque pits or planter for ornamentals, you name it. Patios made out of bricks have so many variations they are limitless.
