Cost of Doing Laundry at a Laundromat
The cost of doing laundry at a laundry mat seems high at first glance. There are many factors that the average person may not consider when looking at that price. Doing laundry at home is not free; it just feels that way.
Laundry Mat vs. Home Laundry Room
At the laundry mat you show up with a roll or two of quarters, you bring your soap and your clothes. You always bring a book because you are going to be there for a couple of hours. The nice part is you know that all your laundry is getting done at once. The downside is putting the quarters in and feeling like you are paying a large amount of money.
Home laundry rooms may not have slots for your quarters but the gas, water and electric bill have run a monthly tab for you. You also can only do one load at a time, which means that you will be doing laundry every day.
The cost of the average laundry mat trip is $30; the cost of the average home laundry room is about $50-60. At home you have to pay for water, electric and possibly gas. You can cut your home bill buy washing in cold water and drying during off-peak hours.
