DIY Home Appliance Repairs
If you have that entrepreneurial spirit in you and you have an appliance that has decided not to work, fix it yourself (DIY). That is right, most likely you can fix it and save the money having a repairman come to your home and do something you can do – cheaper! Saving money always comes first.
Here are a few things that often become un-functional that you can repair yourself. There are many more and they can be found on the Internet if you want to get serious about saving lots of money with DIY on your appliances.
Smelly Dishwasher
If you find you have a smell after running the dishwasher try this. That smell most likely is coming from bacteria on decaying food trapped inside the dishwasher. Clean the screen in the bottom and the holes in the sprayer arm that rotates while the dishwasher is running. Then clean the bottom of the washer door where particles can also collect. Then put a dishwasher cleaner and disinfectant in the washer (without dishes) and run it through a full cycle. Smell problem solved!
Is Your Oven or Microwave Flashing Numbers at You?
Is your electrical appliance trying to tell you something with that weird flashing number or combination of letters and numbers? It actually could be doing just that. Those are what are known as fault codes. Many of the newer appliances have these codes built in. Check your owner’s manual and it could tell you what you need to know. Along with the model number and the code you may be able to order a part and DIY. If not, at least you can tell your repairman what to bring to fix the problem.
