How to Troubleshoot General Electric Appliances
Troubleshooting any appliance can be difficult, and the GE brand of appliances is no different. There are many different components of the appliance, which is what makes it difficult to figure out what is causing the problem or malfunction. However, all GE appliances have similar basic components that you can attempt to diagnose yourself.
- First, the very basic of
troubleshooting begins with making sure the General Electric
appliance is plugged into a wall socket outlet that is working. For
instance, you may have your refrigerator plugged into an electrical
plug, but if the socket is non-functioning, your refrigerator is not
going to work. Therefore, before you do anything else, try plugging
your appliance into an entirely different wall socket on the other
side of the room. If it works, you have diagnosed that the problem
is the socket and not the appliance. - Check your breaker box, especially
if you live in an older home. Often the current of a large GE
appliance can easily trip the breaker. Therefore, this is often easy
to see when you open the breaker box, you will see that one of the
switches, which goes to the appliance is switched to off, turn it
back to the “on” and your appliance will begin working. If the
breaker continues to trip, you may need to have an electrician come
to your home to identify where the problem is, which is a common
issue with older homes and newer appliances. - Turn off all other noises in the
room your appliance is located and see if you hear any odd noises
coming from the GE appliance. While you may not be able to diagnose
the problem based on a strange noise, when you call a repair person,
you can give them some details about the sound, which can help them
diagnose the problem.
