Different Types of Pest Control

DIY Pest Control Supplies

DIY pest control supplies are easy to gather up once you know what to look for.  In addition to making barriers against bug invasions, there are some things in your kitchen cabinets that act as effective bug killers and are inexpensive as well.

DIY Bug Barriers

  • Diatomaceous earth is a soft powdery substance in the hands of people, but to bugs it is are actually razor sharp.  Made from the bodies of crushed tiny sea creatures, diatomaceous earth is an effective bug barrier since it actually slices them to death when they walk or slither across it.

  • If you see a particular spot where ants are getting into your home, consider boiling some water and tossing it in the vicinity of the crack. Lemon juice also works well to repel ants.

  • Bitter cucumber peels act as a natural deterrent to many pests, including ants, moths and flies.

  • Other natural pest barriers include powdered charcoal, bone meal, talcum powder or chalk. Each bug has its own particular aversions, so be sure to check what your particular nuisance doesn’t like as you concoct a deterrent especially for that insect.

Pest Control Using Household Substances

  • Ivory dishwashing liquid is a natural insecticide. You should dilute it with water (such that it’s about at a one percent solution) before you spray it onto plants.

  • Fruit flies love wine, so you can leave a bit of wine in a saucer mixed in with detergent.  This will kill the flies when they eventually come around to drink the doctored wine.
