Different Types of Pest Control
The type of pests may vary from state to state, but one thing is for sure, when you have pests, you need some form of pest control. For some people, pests are ground squirrels raiding their garden; other people are inundated with mosquitoes, flies, gnats, termites or ticks. Pests of one kind or another are bound to find your home at some point. Check out different types of pest control for the help you need.
Repellents
Repellents come in ultrasonic repellents, granules, liquids and powder forms. They are most frequently used in gardens and around garbage cans. Not too surprising, homeowners get pretty creative with them in all areas of their home. The idea of a repellent is to make a plant, flower, vegetable or even shrubs so disgusting to pests that they will stay away or be repelled.
These products can emit an obnoxious sound, bad odor or even make plants taste bad. Amazing as it sounds, you can purchase granule repellents laced with predator animal urine.
Insecticides
Insecticides also come in many different forms including: sprays, soluble powders, liquid concentrates and microencapsulated insecticides. Soluble powder insecticides produce strong odors and the most commonly purchased types are Orthene PCO and Acephate Turf, which are often used to fight roach infestations.
Liquid concentrates also called emulsified insecticides are mixed with water. Predominately used to treat large problem areas and they last for about 30 days. Microencapsulated insecticides are very tiny particles that can be sprayed into crevices and cracks. As pests crawl over these microscopic particles the particles burst and release the insecticide.
Traps/Bait
Believe it or not traps are even made to trap insects as small as ant or as large as rabbits or raccoons. Many of today's traps are made with catch and release designs, so you can safely remove an animal to another location without killing it.
Poisonous baits are still available for purchase. These are mainly used to kill rats and mice. They are dangerous and you should give careful consideration to the consequences of pets, children and innocent wildlife getting poisoned by accident.
