DIY Residential Playground Equipment
A great playground is every parent’s dream for her child. If residential playground equipment is out of your budget, a DIY residential playground is an option with just a few skills and some materials. Whether you want a basic swing set or an entire playground set, you can do the project yourself.
- Setting the Budget
Building an entire play set is challenging physically and financially. Before you begin set a budget for the project. When you have a clear financial projection in mind, you will be able to determine the scope of the playground equipment you can build. You can spend as little as $100 for a simple residential playground, or you can spend hundreds or thousands more if you want more elaborate structures.
- Considering Playground Features
Once you have determined the budget for your DIY residential playground, the next thing to do is to think about the features of the playground. Again, only consider features that you can afford. This will be easy because you are doing the project yourself, which means you know what is going on and what should be done next. Most common playground features include slides, ladders, towers, rock walls, and steps.
- Choosing the Materials
The materials you use will depend on the plans you are using and your own taste. Most DIY residential playgrounds use wood for their structures because it is very easy to work with. One can easily cut, connect, and attach one wooden part to another compared to other materials like steel or metal.
- Evaluating the Space Available
On top of the dimensions of the equipment itself, you also need to evaluate the space that you have. Make sure you have more than enough space available to fit the playground equipment. You will need a “fall zone”, which is the area around the playground equipment where children might fall. You need to make room for this area in order to prevent accidents.
