Solar Energy VS Natural Gas

Do Gas Companies Offer Solar Energy

As the movement towards sustainable energy usage steams ahead, there is a consensus of opinion that gas companies should offer solar energy. Gas companies are usually state-run companies, and while the merit of having gas companies offer solar energy have been established, there are currently drawbacks to the proliferation of gas companies that offer consumers solar energy.

Florida's Gas Company and Solar Power

In a bold and welcome green power movement into solar power energy, the Florida Power and Light Company has constructed the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in the United States, which is ideally called the DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center.

The center has brought economic and environmental benefits to the state, which now bears the honor of being tagged as a national leader in solar power. The installation created hundreds of construction jobs, and solar power will avoid 575,000 tons of greenhouse emissions and is expected to generate $2 million in property tax revenue for DeSoto County during its first year of operation. Florida to date is the lone star, by reason of visionary thinking, that plunged itself into solar power and brought the dream to a reality.

Locations Must Be Suitable for Solar Power

Gas companies should have the ability to generate significant amounts of solar power in addition to large quantities of associated economic activity expected for the preparation of solar energy, according to Professor Matt Croucher of Arizona State University.

Optimum Deployment of Solar Index

Using an optimum deployment of solar index (OSDI) measurement method, Professor Croucher's research indicated that low cost energy installation must drive the effort for solar power energy, and the location's electricity costs should be higher than average current costs. The study suggests that locations should also have the potential to produce electricity through solar power that counterbalances large amounts of carbon emissions.

Best Locations for Solar Power Installation

The best locations for gas companies to install solar power energy based on self-sufficiency conditions include Hawaii, which is nearest the equator, a feature that benefits solar power. Other states already powered by gas that are suitable for solar power are New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Current States Not Meeting Solar Power Self-sufficiency Standards

Surprisingly, gas companies in California, Nevada and Florida are left in the dust when self-sufficiency is used as a measuring tool for the installation of solar energy.
