How to Change a Gas Supplier

Gas prices keep going up and many people have higher bills than they usually do. If your gas bills are going up you can see if you can change your gas supplier to something that is cheaper for you. You may have more options than you might think. You can learn how to change a gas supplier in a few short steps.

  1. Ask your current gas supplier if they offer the CHOICE program. The CHOICE program can help you save money. You can look on your gas bill for a phone number than you can call to find more information about this service.  The CHOICE program allows you to select your gas supplier, so you may find one that is cheaper than what you already have.

  2. Ask your current gas supplier if they charge you a cancellation fee if you decide to change suppliers. Some gas suppliers will charge you a fee if you cancel your contract early.

  3. Look into other suppliers and find out what rate they charge and compare it to what you already have. Get their contact information and call them. Look on your bill to see what you are charged, and compare the rates. Ask them if the rate is locked in or will it be going up in the near future. If it is locked in, ask them how long it will be locked at the current rate.

  4. Find other suppliers by starting at your local utility company. Look online for other gas suppliers in your area. Navigate to your favorite search engine, such as Google or Bing, and search for keywords “gas suppliers” and add your city name.
