Electric RC Car Tips

RC (a.k.a. radio-controlled) cars simulate the act of driving, which is why they can be so much fun for children who aren’t able to drive yet.  Electric RC cars are usually the most commonplace since they are both less expensive and easier to use.

  • Make sure you know what you want to get out of your car before you purchase it.  This is important because not all RC cars are built the same.  There are some that are built for indoor use only, which is great for beginners but not for someone who wants to customize their vehicle.

  • Once you are more experienced with these cars you will want to be able to customize them.  These vehicles are more expensive because they are more heavy-duty and meant for outdoor use.  Therefore, they cost a lot more money.

  • There are a lot of companies that make these cars including Team Associated HPI, Traxxas, Tyco and Nikko.  Be on the lookout for these brands whenever you are shopping.

  • Inspect your car before every race.  Remove the shocks off and make sure that the suspension is moving freely.  Check the steering and make sure that nothing is snagging it up.  Check and clean the drive train and pulleys. Make sure that the belts aren’t too tight.

  • Make sure that you never forget about your vehicle’s wires.  There are lots of them that may hang down or get in the way of your car's operation.  Forgetting to do so can ruin your vehicle’s wires and electronics.
