Exercise Equipment for Bad Knees

Bad knees can stem from a previous knee injury or being overweight. Working out can put a lot of strain on the knees which makes it difficult for some people to be motivated to go to the gym. There is gym equipment out there that makes it possible to get to the gym and get a vigorous workout without straining the knees.

Elliptical

Elliptical machines have less of an impact on the knees than a treadmill. You can use an elliptical machine by moving your legs in a circular back and forth motion. The motion looks like a cross between biking and running. Each foot is held in a separate footrest and you use this machine while standing. The speed that you work out at depends on how fast you want to move. Your arms are used by holding on to the handles that allow you to move your arms and help the movement of your feet. Those adults that are older but also want to get a good cardio workout can make a wise choice in using an elliptical machine.

Leg Extension

The leg extension machine is good for helping build up you quadriceps, which can help those with bad knees. You use a leg extension by sitting in a seat with a backrest. You wrap your feet under the footpad, placing your ankles behind it. Then you extend your legs up and out, raising the footpads.

Stationary Bike

The stationary bike is another low impact cardio machine that can help you lose weight and build stamina. Using a stationary bike is just like using a regular bike except you are not moving. You can adjust the resistance on a stationary bike and pedal as fast or slow as needed.
