Facts About Fashion Trade Associations

Most industries, including the fashion industry, have trade organizations that represent its various segments.  These organizations provide a heads up on industry standards, emerging trends, the latest technologies, proposed rules and regulations and controversial bills while providing you with networking opportunities too.

The Scope and Location of Fashion Trade Associations


Fashion trade associations range from worldwide organizations to local organizations. Worldwide organizations include the Fashion Group International, Centre d'Etudes des Industries de l'Habillement, Fédération des Industries de la Maille et Bonneterie, Fédération Française de la Couture, Association of Total Fashion, Japan Apparel Industry Council and the Japan Fashion Color Association. The local state and regional organizations include the East Coast-based Council of Fashion Designers of American and the West Coast California-based California Fashion Association.   These groups will cooperate on the big issues.  There are some times whenever they are in disagreement with one another based upon their particular market though.


Communications


There are meetings that are conducted in order to keep their membership aware of developments within the fashion field.  Sometimes trade shows are held to showcase emerging trends.  Members will also receive such things as newsletters and emails, which are considered to be standard means of communication.  As a member, you will also receive ballots to vote for such things as officers.


Membership in Fashion Trade Associations


There are some organizations that you can only join if you are invited to do so.  Other organizations require that you go through an application process first.  Regardless of how you become a member of a fashion trade association, you will be required to pay dues on an annual basis.  You will also have specific guidelines to follow, which will vary by organization.
