Find Affordable Ways to Design a Garden

A garden is a living art form and its design and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Many people admire the garden design and skills of others without realizing how really simple creating and designing their own garden can be.  By following a few simple tips you too can design and create a beautiful and affordable garden.

Visit your local library.  Here you will find books and magazines that have hundreds of garden designs.  Decide upon the type of garden that you want and then research it.

Research it on the Internet.  There are hundreds of sites that offer you the ability to create 3D and interactive gardens.  You are able to plug in your garden dimensions and the types of plants that you are considering using and see what your finished product will look like.

Visit your local nursery or home improvement store for ideas.  Some of these will have suggestions or ideas on what will work best in a garden in the area that you live in.  People working in these places can be a valuable resource about how big certain plants will grow and how do create constant color in your garden.

Visit home and garden shows in your local area.  Spring and summer bring a flurry of these in most areas.  Check your local newspaper or chamber of commerce for times and locations.  These shows have a wealth of information in garden design as well as the latest and greatest garden gadgets. While there you may want to collect business cards from some of the designers or landscapers that are being showcased.

Contact or join your local garden club.  These are no longer just the little old ladies who grow prized roses.  These are now designed for the gardening enthusiast and are a wealth of information in garden design, techniques and other resources.

Contact your local community college or horticulture program.  See if they are willing to take on your garden design as a class project.  This is a great idea if you are not in a hurry or have an unusually large space that you are trying to design.  You may even be able to get some free labor out of the deal as the design is created.

Contact a local landscape designer.  See if they are willing to design your garden as a part of their portfolio.  They may want to take pictures of the process and may even want to bring visitors by from time to time to show off their work, but that is a fair trade over what you will save in design cost.
