How Does an Electric Hedge Trimmer Work?

Gas Hedge Trimmer Buyer's Guide

A variety of gas-powered hedge trimmers are on the market. Each one offers different types of attachments, power and size. Consider the shape, size and location of your hedges when choosing which gas powered hedge trimmer to purchase, and select the one that can best fit your landscaping needs.

Size

Choose a gas hedge trimmer that has the right length handle and blade. If you have tall hedges, purchase a hedge trimmer that is long enough to reach them.  If you have short hedges, a gas hedge trimmer with a shorter handle and blade may be better. Many models offer special attachments that can make the trimmer larger and can help it reach higher hedgers. The longer the handle, the less sturdy and more difficult to control the trimmer will be.

Power

Choose a gas hedge trimmer with sufficient engine power. The bigger and more powerful the engine is, the more gas you will need. If you have many hedges, large hedges or thick and hard to trim hedges, you will need a more powerful 40cc engine. If you have small hedges or hedges with frail limbs and twigs, a less powerful 25cc engine will be adequate.

Features and Attachments

Pick a gas hedge trimmer that comes with the features and attachments you need. Many gas hedge trimmers offer blade stoppers, emergency off switches or special handle grips that make the trimmer easier and more comfortable to hold. Attachments such as handle extensions and different types of blades are also available for many trimmer models.
