How to Grow a Container Garden

Guide to Container Gardening

Have you moved to a smaller home or apartment and do not have much room for gardening? If you would still like to garden, you can do so using container gardening. This allows you to turn your balcony or other small areas into your new garden. Your garden is in containers, such as pots and baskets.

What a Container Is

Container gardening means you use only containers for your garden without the need for a yard. Apartment dwellers that have no yards are apt to use container gardening because it allows them to cultivate their hobby. With container gardening you can grow flowers, fresh vegetables, and herbs. You can literally create your own landscape, but you will not have to weed or mow as you would with a traditional garden.

Time Commitment for Container Gardening

Just because you are planting your garden in various containers does mean you will not have to work at keeping your garden in good shape. The same way you work in an outside garden with planning and planting at various times of the year. You have to water, make sure they get the proper amount of sunlight, and if you are growing vegetables, you have to know when to harvest them. You also need containers that have holes in the bottom so that when you water the excess has a way to drain.

Types of Plants

If you have a balcony, you can grow different types of plants that do well in both the summer months and even into the cooler months. Some plants that can work well are Mexican feather grass, Jasmine, lavender cottons, and cornflowers.
