Guidelines for YouTube Advertising

YouTube is arguably one of the most heavily-visited websites to date. With millions of visitors daily, it's an ideal place to advertise a product or service. However, ads must meet the criteria set forth by the company. YouTube provides basic guidelines detailing acceptable and unacceptable advertising, which must be met before the ad is accepted to show on the site.

 Restricted Ads

  • Adult Themes - YouTube does not permit ads
that in anyway depict or promote elements of a sexual nature. The
same holds for matters of violence, gore, profane or lewd content,
and the promotion of political or religious opinions. The promotion
of illicit or controlled substances, including alcohol and tobacco,
    is also not allowed.

  • Restricted Products - The
product categories prohibited by YouTube include
such things as bulk marketing, anabolic steroids, copyright work,
cure-all products, prostitution, dialers, E-gold and other products
    considered legally questionable.

  • Fraudulent ads - YouTube prohibits
ads that mimic any portion of the website's interface and page under
most circumstances. This goes for ads claiming to be or mimicking
other sites, groups or brands that they do not legally represent.

  • Phishing/Scams - Ads for sites that
collect sensitive matters, such as personal information, money, or
fraudulent use of trademarks, with the intent to scam an individual
are not permitted. This also includes ads promoting fraudulent
claims such as “Moon Dust will make you 25 years younger.”

Special Conditions and Exceptions

Advertising guidelines through YouTube provide special conditions regarding certain forms of advertising. Ads containing such things as Geo Aware Features, advertising live events, third-party applications, the gathering of funds and other features are subject to a unique set of terms set by YouTube. It's recommended for those with any questions to consult YouTube directly and to read over the site's advertising policies, which appears on their company site.
