How Make a Body Sugar Scrub

Exfoliation is the act of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin using an abrasive. Sugar is one such abrasive and is gentle enough to use all over your body. This type of scrub can be purchased at department stores or stores that specialize in body products. It is, however, just as easy and less expensive to make it at home using either brown or white sugar.

What You'll Need:

  • Bowl

  • Olive oil

  • Brown sugar

  • Vanilla extract

  • White cane sugar

  • Avocado or coconut oil

  • Essential oils

  • Ground oatmeal

  • Sweet almond oil

Brown Sugar Scrub

  1. Set out a medium bowl for mixing up your ingredients.

  2. Measure out 1 cup of brown sugar and pour it into the bowl. The brown sugar may be either dark or light.

  3. Pour a half cup of olive oil into the bowl with the sugar and mix it thoroughly

  4. Add a quarter to a half teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance the warm scent of the scrub if desired.

  5. Spoon the mixture into a clean jar and close it with the lid. When you are ready to use the scrub, scoop out a small amount and gently rub it over the surface of your skin.

White Sugar Scrub

  1. Measure out one cup of white cane sugar and pour it into a bowl for mixing.

  2. Add 2/3 of a cup of avocado or coconut oil. If you do not have either of these oils, olive oil is a suitable alternative.

  3. Add several drops of essential oil to the sugar and oil, one drop at a time. Stir after each addition and check the scent before adding another drop. This way you can be certain not to make the scent too stron by adding too much.

  4. Store the scrub in a glass jar with a lid until you are ready to use it.

Brown Sugar and Oatmeal Scrub

  1. Measure and pour 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of white sugar into a bowl.

  2. Add 1 cup of ground oatmeal to the sugar in the bowl.

  3. Add 1 cup of sweet almond oil to the brown sugar and stir it up until all of the sugar is coated and well mixed.

  4. Transfer the sugar scrub to a container with a lid.
