How To Clean a Spa Filter Cartridge
Spa filters are designed to catch any dirt, debris or algae, while still allowing water to flow through. These filters can easily become clogged due to too much debris, or algae attaching and growing on the filter. When this happens, the filter will need to be removed from the spa, cleaned, rinsed and replaced.
Step 1: Turn of the Spa and unplug the power cord. Find the lid to the filter cartridge. It may look like flap or basket located inside the spa. Remove the lid to reach the filter.
Step 2: Attach a flat sprayer nozzle to the filter. Tilt the sprayer at an angle and turn it on to spray the filter. The strong spray will help remove particles and debris that are caught inside the filter.
Step 3: Follow the directions on the filter cleaning solution bottle to mix it properly. Pour the mixture into a cup or bowl and place the filter inside to soak overnight. Once the filter has finished soaking, place it in a glass or bowl of warm water and to rinse it.
Step 4: Pour some vinegar in a bowl or cup and place the filter inside to soak. The acid in the vinegar will help kill any algae that may be growing on the filter. Allow the filter to soak in the vinegar for at least an hour. Remove the filter and place it in a glass of warm water to rinse it.
Step 5: Remove the filter from the water and allow it to air-dry overnight.
Step 6: Place the filter back in the spa and close the lid. Plug it back in and turn it on. The filter should be cleaned at least once a month to help prevent algae growth, keep the spa clean and keep the filter functioning properly.
