How To Find Auto AC Leaks

Air conditioning leaks are a common problem in automobiles. The cool winter air often causes issues with the fitting of the air conditioning system. If you do not have the money for an auto shop diagnosis, you can do it yourself. It is not a complicated job, but is does require following the instructions.

1. Remember safety. Air conditioning systems can be extremely dangerous. A car's AC system proves to be even more dangerous because of the closed quarters where it is located. Thoroughly read and follow any instructions on tools and supplies needed and how to use them.

2. Inspect the A/C system. You should complete a thorough inspection of your automobile's air conditioning system. Oil and dirty spots on the line or fittings could mean a Freon leak.

3. Obtain a fluorescent dye tracer system. This system is affordable and is used by auto shops to find leaks in air conditioning lines.

4. Follow manufacturer’s instructions. The fluorescent dye tracer system will come with directions. Follow these directions exactly to install the system in your car.

5. Inject the dye. The dye tracer kit injects dye into the air conditioning system. If you find dye on the lines or fittings, then you have leaks.
