How To Fix Spa Leaks
As soon as a leak occurs in your spa, you should fix it as soon as you can because they can become much worse and cannot be repaired. Not only will the leak cause damage to the pool but it can also damage the structures around it. Most pools are made of acrylic material, which can be easily fixed once the leak is found.
How to Fix Spa Leaks
Materials Needed
- Food dye
- Acrylic repair compound
- Gasket
- Socket wrench
- Silicone sealant
- Look around the pool to determine where the leak is located. Most leaks are found in the spa shell while others are caused by air or water blowing jets.
- Add a few drops of food dye to the water and watch how the water begins to flow. The dye will usually flow to where the leak is located.
- Use an acrylic repair compound to repair the leak. The compound is applied to the crack and is allowed to dry. Follow the directions on the package for application and drying times.
- Locate the jet body. It has a gasket that is located on the inside of its shell. Inspect it to see if it is damaged. If it is damaged, it will need to be replaced. Gaskets are common causes of leaks in spas.
- You remove the gasket by removing the cover. If there is insulation or plastic inside, it should be removed.
- Use a socket wrench to loosen the jet from inside the shell. You can then access the gasket and remove it.
- Place a new gasket in place of the old gasket. Place the jet back inside the shell and tighten the shell with the socket wrench.
- Make sure you add silicone sealant around the shell and the gasket so there will be no leaks in the future.
