How To Make Wire Jewelry
Creating wire jewelry is very simple once you understand the basics of it. You can create many unique pieces of jewelry that you can wear yourself, sell or give as gifts. Make sure you have all the supplies necessary to create one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. And keep in mind that, just like anything else, practice makes perfect.
You will need:
- Wire cutters
- Chain nose pliers
- Round nose pliers
- Beads and other decorative items
- Section of chain to connect your jewelry
- Jewelry clasps
- 20 or 22 gauge jewelry wire
- Wooden dowels or jig board for bending wire
Gather Materials:
- Set out all of your supplies, including pliers, wire cutters, beads, chain, clasps and wire so that you can easily locate them.
- Select the gauge of wire you will use. The higher the gauge, the thinner the wire.
- Cut a section of wire that is at least 18" long, and about 2" longer than you need for your finished jewelry.
Create Your Jewelry:
- Use a pair of round nose pliers to create a loop on the end of the wire.
- Add beads and other decorations by threading them onto the end of the wire that is straight. Make sure that you leave enough room to create a second loop.
- Finish the section of the jewelry by cutting the wire and then creating a second loop to secure the beads and other decorations.
- Use a jump ring to add a section of chain to the end of the necklace or bracelet. This can also be done by slipping the chain over the loop at the end of the wire.
- Attach a clasp to one end of the jewelry and then connect the other side of the clasp to the other end of the jewelry.
