How To Make Your Own Hair Products

At one time or another most of us feel like we are probably paying too much for hair care products. Some shampoos and conditioners are heavily scented and you have to wonder how many fillers and chemicals they contain. You might consider making your own hair products with natural ingredients and scents you like.

Shampoo

Place 1/4 cup of liquid Castile soap in a medium sized bowl. Choose light vegetable oil, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil or jojoba. Add 1/2 teaspoon of your preferred oil to the soap mixture. Stir it up good. Put the contents in a container or reuse an old shampoo or conditioner bottle with a handy built in spout. Homemade Castile soap makes great lather, but it it a touch thinner than commercial shampoos.

Moisturizing Conditioner

Try this once a month conditioner to revitalize your hair. Peel and cut a ripe avocado into small pieces for mashing and place in a small bowl. Add grapeseed oil next, about one ounce, which you can purchase from a health food store. Mash it up until it forms a thick paste. Rub the mixture through your hair and put a conditioning cap on your hair or a shower cap will do. Let it sit on your hair for at least 20 minutes, shampoo it out and rinse as usual.

Coconut/Avocado Conditioner

Use this conditioner also made with avocado, which has a thinner consistency more like commercial conditioners than a paste. Slice and mash up the avocado and slowly blend in coconut milk until you get the desired consistency of a conditioner. Blend it well with a fork to remove lumps. Work it through your hair into your scalp and let is condition for 15 minutes or so. Rinse it out and then shampoo.

Clarifier-Baking Soda

Mix 3 tbsp. of baking soda, 1/4 tsp of water plus 1 1/2 tsp. of honey together in a small bowl. Stir it well until it becomes a thick paste. Add drops of water to thin it out a little if it becomes too thick. Rub the mixture throughout your hair and let it sit for about five minutes.
