How To Program a Remote Starter

Now that you have installed your remote car starter, it is time to program it so that you will be able to remotely start your vehicle from inside your home or office. In order for a remote starter to work properly from a distance, it must be programmed so the unit's receiver recognizes the remote starter key.

Review your remote starter's installation manual on the exact programming for the unit you have purchased. Here is a common method that is used with many remote starters.

  1. Get in your vehicle.

  2. Depress the brake pedal and make sure all the doors are closed.

  3. Insert the key into the ignition.

  4. Turn your ignition switch to the "On" position with your key.

  5. Press the control button on the remote twice and hold it down the second time. The vehicle's horn may sound letting you know the system is ready to be programmed with the remote.  After confirmation is given release the button.

  6. Depress the function key on the remote for eight seconds. Release the key when the LED light remains on and is no longer flashing.

  7. Use the remote to press the "Start" button. The LED light should flash three quick blinks.

  8. Now press the "Lock" button on the remote. Depending on the system you have the horn may sound again to verify that it has been properly programmed.

  9. Test the unit now.

  10. Remove the key and press the start button.
The engine should start.  If the vehicle does not start refer to the troubleshooting section of your manual for further instruction.
