How To Remove Tartar From Dentures

Dentures must be cleaned like natural teeth to keep them white and bacteria free. This cleaning must take daily or more often. If they are not cleaned regularly, tartar can easily build up on them and it will require a little more work getting them bright and clean again. The back dentures should have extra care.

Materials Needed

  • Toothbrush

  • Fluoride toothpaste

  • Bowl

  • Vinegar

  • Water

  • Spoon

  1. Fill a sink with enough to catch your dentures in the event you drop them. Make sure the sink is filled at least half way. This will keep the dentures from cracking if they hit the sink.

  2. Remove the dentures and brush them as you normally do. Brush the top and bottom. Make sure you focus on the back molars especially. Fluoride toothpaste is better to use because it will not scratch the dentures. Scratches can easily hide germs and bacteria and make them hard to reach.

  3. Do not forget to brush over your tongue and gums to remove germs there also. Rinse your mouth and dentures with clean water. Make sure food is thoroughly rinsed from the dentures. Go over those areas with toothpaste and a toothbrush. Rinse the dentures again.

  4. Fill a bowl with 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup water. Mix the solution with a spoon. Place dentures in the solution and allow them to soak over night while you sleep. This solution is natural and will remove plaque and tartar without harming the dentures. Rinse the dentures and place them back in your mouth.
