How To Restore Automobile Paint
Many car owners spend thousands of dollars on auto paint repair, but there is no need to take your car to an auto shop when you can restore yourself for nearly a fraction of the cost. There are only a few tools that are needed for auto paint restoration, and although the task may call for a little elbow grease, the restoration is not at all difficult to complete.
- Clean your car. Before starting any paint restoration on an automobile, it should be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water. Cleaning your car helps remove dirt and debris that has settled on the surface. After the car has been washed thoroughly dry with a dry cloth.
- Buff the current paint job. In order to have a smooth restoration, you need to use a rubbing compound and a high-speed buffer or tool that is capable of removing auto paint. Rubbing compound is a liquid substance that is designed to remove scratches and paint from a car. Pour a small amount onto the buffer to remove the paint. (It is best to work in small sections at a time.)
- Polish the car. Apply some car polish to a buffer (not the same buffer that was used with the rubbing compound product) and polish the entire surface of the car with a light hand.
- Wax the car. Once the car has been buffed and polished, use a high quality wax to restore the car’s shine. Apply the wax to the car using polishing pads. Be sure to use circular motions during this process.
- Retouch the paint if necessary. If there are small areas that need paint restoration, do so with a small detailing brush that is made for that specific purpose. You may have to visit a professional auto shop to have match the color paint that is needed for the restoration.
