How To Treat an Eye Blister
Eye blister are commonly called sties. They form when eyelash follicles become clogged, irritated or infected by bacteria. Sties can be itchy, painful and downright annoying. There are many treatment methods you can try at home to help remove the sty and ease the symptoms. If the sty does not disappear within a week, a doctor should be contacted for further treatment.
- Mix a few drops of baby shampoo with a small cup of water. Use a cotton swab or the corner of a washcloth to apply the solution to the edge of your eyelids and eyelashes. Use a different cotton swab for each eye and for the tops and bottoms of each eye. This will prevent you from spreading the sty to the other eye or the opposite part of the eye.
- Make a warm compress using a washcloth and hot water. Soak the cloth with hot water and use your hands to squeeze the cloth to remove the excess water. Fold the cloth twice and lay it on your eye near the area of the sty. The hot water will help the sty drain faster and ease the pain. Be sure to wash the cloth after each use and do not reuse a cloth.
- Apply a triple antibiotic ointment to the area of the sty and the rest of the eye. The ointment will help heal the sty and keep it from spreading to other parts of the eye. It will also relieve some of the pain. This will also help keep sties from coming back in the future.
- Avoid touching, scratching or rubbing the sty. This will only make it worse by causing more pain and inflammation. You could also spread the sty to your other eye, or other people you come into contact with.
- Visit a doctor if the stie lasts longer than a week or is growing larger. A doctor can prescribe strong antibiotics that can remove the sty quickly. A doctor can also help ease your pain and other symptoms associated with the sty.
