How to Access the Internet Via Satellite

Unfortunately for some rural dwellers, Internet via cable or phone service is not an option. The cable and phone Internet service providers must conclude that it is profitable enough for them to put into place the necessary items to provide service to those areas. Until then, those living in some rural areas at least have the option of getting Internet service by satellite.

  1. Familiarize yourself with the companies that provide Internet service via satellite. WildBlue and HughesNet and EarthLink are three such providers of satellite Internet service.

  2. Find a list of such Internet providers that cover your area. You can do this by going to each's web site and entering the necessary information to see if they can service your area.

  3. Talk to your neighbors that have satellite Internet service. You want to discover if they are happy with their service or not. Some satellite Internet service is reputed to be slow.

  4. Create a chart or list to compare the companies that service your area. Compare the speed of service and cost for each.

  5. Call them if you have any questions or need to be clear about something before you make a choice. If they require you to enter a contract, you'll be stuck if you discover you don't care for the service.

  6. Make your decision and contact the provider to establish an account with them.

  7. Follow any course of action they specify to prepare for installation.

  8. Wait for the installer to come and set up your service.

  9. Install the software provided to you on your computer. You will need to enter the username and password associated with your account.
