How to Accessorize Bridal Dresses
Picking out your bridal dress is only part of creating your perfect wedding day look. Once you've decided on what to wear, the next step is to accessorize it. This is crucial, because what you choose can either make your wedding ensemble or detract from it.
- Use your dress color as a guide when selecting accessories to go with it. According to The Knot, certain types of metal flatter certain wedding dress shades better than others. For example, it states that gold and silver work well with diamond white gowns, which are slightly off-white. On the other hand, when wearing a brighter white gown, platinum or white gold work best and yellow gold should be avoided. However, although you will want your jewelry to flatter your gown it is also important to keep your skin tone, and which type of jewelry looks best up against it, in mind.
- Tone down your jewelry if you are wearing a dress that has a large amount of beading or other embellishments. Overly large earrings or too much jewelry that sparkles can detract from these attractive features as opposed to complementing them. Instead, be more conservative and allow both you and your dress to capture a majority of attention.
- Wear necklaces that are not excessively long. It should not disappear into your decolletage, but should instead flatter it and the dress itself.
- Skip the necklace. Because of its shape, halter gowns are best worn without a necklace, which can make the neckline appear overly busy. Sleeveless and sweetheart necklines also allow you to skip wearing a necklace if you wish. If you choose to skip the necklace, or if you are wearing a halter neckline, pick a stunning pair of attention grabbing earrings or adorn your hair with jewels, flowers or attractive hair sticks. Even an attractive bracelet can be worn as an accessory.
- Wear a sash on wedding dresses that have minimal detail. Sashes allow you to personalize your gown and add a pop of color if desired. Avoid sashes if your dress has beading or other detailing that would be covered by, or clash with it.
- Choose jewelry that you feel strongly about and that reflects who you are, regardless of what others may say or what others may feel is appropriate. Ultimately, it's your wedding and you'll want to wear what makes you feel your best and most beautiful. Make a statement and own your own particular brand of style.
