How to Address Save the Date Envelopes
Save-the-dates are commonly sent a few months before a big celebration such as a wedding. When addressing the envelopes that contain your save-the-date, there are a few formalities to be aware of to ensure your envelopes are addressed correctly. This is especially important for formal events.
Guest Address
- Look up the names of all of your guests to ensure you are spelling their first and last name correctly. You will also need to find a black ballpoint pen to use as the mailing envelope, or outer envelope is typically addressed by hand.
- Start writing in the center of the envelope. Write out the full name of the guest in the top line of the address. Make sure to start with an appropriate title such as Mr. or Mrs.
- Write out the street address directly underneath the name on the second line. Do not use abbreviations, instead write out words such as Avenue and Street. If the guest lives in an apartment, write their apartment number on the next line.
- Follow this with the city and state on the last line, if there is no room for the zip code following the state, write it on the bottom line, but center it.
Return Address
- Place the return address information on the back-flap of the envelope, not the upper left hand corner on the front.
- Write out the name of the person responsible for receiving and accounting for returned mail, this may not always be you, this could be a party planner or someone else.
- Address the return address information in the same manner you addressed the guest's address by using full names and avoiding abbreviations.
