How to Address Save-the-Date Postcards

Save-the-dates are popular pre-invites for weddings. Save-the-dates let guests know about the plans for a wedding about two to three months in advanced. If you are planning on sending save the date postcards to guests, there are a few things you should know about the process of addressing these cards.

  1. Begin with your guest's address. Make sure to double check the spelling of everyone's name so you know you are spelling it correctly. Since the postcards are generally more informal you can choose between writing on typing on the postcards. You should address each guest with either Mr., Mrs. or Mrs. before their name, unless you wish to make your save the dates very informal. In that case you can simply use their first and last name. When formally addressing your postcards you will want to address married couples living together as Mr. and Mrs. and then the first and last name of the husband. The word "guest" does not need to appear on the save the date.

  2. Include the full address of the guest directly below the name. If you want the save the dates to be more formal, do not use abbreviations and write out words such as drive and avenue. If the guest lives in an apartment the apartment number should have a line of its own. The last line of the address should be the city, state and zip code. If the zip code does not fit then it should appear below the city and state and should be centered.

  3. Write or type the return addresses for save the date postcards in the upper-left hand corner of the postcard. Since there is limited space in this area, you may want to use a return address label. The return address label should include the name and address of the person responsible for accounting for guests. This may not always be the bride and groom.
