How to Arrange a Golf Bag
Arranging your golf bag is one of the best ways to ensure efficiency and ease of use on the course. Golf bags can hold several golf clubs. Although the best way to arrange a bag is whatever you are comfortable with, the commonly accepted organization method protects your clubs while making them readily available.
- Check out how your golf bag is divided. Most new golf bags have three sections that are divided by hard walls. Some bags may have less and some may have more. How you arrange the clubs in your bag will depend on how many sections you have.
- Put your drive club and any woods in the section at the back of the bag. This is the section closest to the strap. This will keep the longer clubs out of the way when you are reaching for others. It will also protect the heads of the long clubs from damage.
- Place the mid-range irons in the middle of the bag. Arrange the clubs from left to right, with the longest iron going on the left side and shortest on the right.
- Arrange the smallest clubs in the front bottom section. This includes wedge clubs and eight and nine irons. This will protect the short irons and wedges from swinging and hitting other clubs. Again, place the longest clubs on the left side of the bag.
- Choose whether to place the putter with the woods or with the short clubs. This is a matter of preference. You may also want to take into account the shape of your golf bag’s sections, as this will determine how the club will rest and if it will swing. Some golf bags may have a place specifically designed for the putter.
- Pack accessories such as golf balls and tees in the zippered pockets of the golf bag. Items such as umbrellas can be placed with the short clubs at the front of the bag. Towels can be hung from any attached hooks or zippers.
