How to Attach Shower Curtains

Shower curtains serve two purposes; functional and decorative. Shower curtains add privacy to a bath or shower area and prevent water from going everywhere, while adding to the theme and attractiveness of a freshly remodeled bathroom. Although selecting just the right shower curtain can be difficult, attaching it to the shower curtain rod is a simple task.

What You’ll Need

  • Shower curtain

  • Shower curtain rod

  • Shower curtain hooks

1.  Remove the shower curtain you have purchased from its packaging and lay it flat. Shower curtains can be fabric or vinyl and come in quite a selection of colors and designs. A fabric shower curtain is typically only for decoration, so if you have chosen a fabric curtain you should hang a clear vinyl shower curtain on the inside of your fabric shower curtain.

2.  Hang the shower curtain hooks you have selected on your shower curtain rod. Like shower curtains, hooks are found in a large variety. They can be plastic or metal and some are hooked while others close in a complete circle. You can sometimes find ornamental hooks, which match the theme of your bathroom or shower curtain. If you purchase a hookless shower curtain, which has large holes surrounded by metal grommets, shower curtain hooks will not be necessary.

3.  Thread your shower curtain hooks through the buttonholes at the top of your shower curtain. You can leave the shower curtain hanging down and do one hole at a time without any problem, or have someone help you by holding the curtain up while you loop the hooks through the holes.
