How to Become a Biofeedback Therapist
A biofeedback therapist works to teach patients how to be able to relax their body. They also help the patient learn to control the body’s involuntary processes such as the heart rate and muscle tension. If this sounds interesting to you, then you will want to learn how to become a biofeedback therapist.
- Take a course through Biofeedback Resources International. The course will focus on how to operate biofeedback machines, use electrodes and teach people how to relax.
- Become a certified biofeedback therapist. While there aren’t any states that require this, it is still highly recommended. BCIA (The Biofeedback Certification Institute of America) offers certification. To become certified you need to take a training seminar, pass a test, complete a certain number of hours of training with a mentor and pay the certification fees.
- Further your training by taking anatomy, psychology and counseling classes.
- Get a license or credential to work in the health care field. This will depend upon the state that you live in so check out your state’s website. If you choose not to become licensed, you can begin work under the supervision of a health care practitioner. The health care practitioner will refer patients to you.
