How to Become a Mixed Martial Artist
Mixed martial arts is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Many people who are fans of the sport aspire to become a mixed martial artist themselves. This is not an easy task and requires a great deal of skill, sacrifice, and determination. If you have all of these traits you may possibly be able to become a mixed martial artist.
- Start training in both striking and submission grappling. You must be skilled in both stand up and ground fighting in order to become a great mixed martial artist. The most important thing you can have is submission grappling skills. No matter how good of a striker you are, once the fight goes to the ground you will not be able to win against a good ground fighter. Even though you should be skilled in stand up fighting, as a grappling expert you can still have a good career.
- Stay focused and determined. Mixed martial artists train harder for fights than any other athletes on the planet. A mixed martial arts fight is extremely exhausting and if you are not properly trained you will run into trouble. Eating right and training hard is a must for any mixed marital artist.
- Make sure you have developed your skills well enough to fight. Use websites like MMA Recruiter to find amateur fights in your area. You can also talk to local promoters about getting a fight on their fight card.
- Don't only take easy fights. If you don't plan on becoming a professional and only want to fight as an amateur as a hobbies, then easy fights are fine. If you do plan on becoming a professional you will need to take harder amateur fights when possible. This is the only way to test your skills and be sure you are ready for the next level.
- Get your license in the state you wish to fight in. You must meet all the requirements to be licensed in the state you are fighting in by the athletic commission in order to fight legally. This will include STD tests as well.
