How to Become an Auto Dealer
Selling cars and other vehicles can be a very lucrative business. Almost everyone from the time they are sixteen years old needs a vehicle to get to where they need to go. Even in the worst of times when people are trying not to spend to much money, cars are a necessity and will still be sold.
- Get your dealer's license. Unlike most regular business start-ups, an auto dealership requires a specific license in order to be able to buy and sell vehicles. There is no way around getting this license, so the best thing you can do is get your dealer's license before you move forward with anything else.
- Determine what type of vehicles you will be selling, and whether they will be new, used, or both. There are benefits to selling each type of vehicle. For example, used cars normally have larger room for negotiation and you stand to make a bigger profit, while new cars will have less mechanical problems and better warranties.
- Find a good location near a busy street. If you are off on a back street with very little traffic, you are unlikely to get much business from people passing by.
- Make deals with the car brand company that you want to sell for. See what they offer and what your potential profit will be. Make sure the vehicles that you choose to sell are selling well. You may have a larger profit on one vehicle, but if it doesn't sell well, you will probably make more selling more cars for less profit from each.
- Go to dealer auctions. If you are selling used cars then dealer auctions are a great way to get cars cheap so you will be able to make big profits. These auctions are normally limited to dealers only so the public won't know what price you gave for the car. This will allow you to negotiate a price with a customer that makes them happy, and still give you a great profit.
