How to Build Deck Railing
Deck railings add a decorative touch to your deck. They also provide bracing for individuals who have difficulty walking up and down stairs. They are also fairly simple to paint and/or stain to match your deck. If building permits are required in your area ensure that you obtain them before beginning this project.
How to Build Deck Railing:
Step 1: Determine your railing design based on your local building code specifications. In most cases the spindles should measure at least nine inches in width.
Step 2: Measure and cut each 2-by-2 piece of wood to the appropriate height for the spindles.
Step 3: Drill one hole 1 1/2 inch from the bottom portion of the deck. Drill another hole that is 1 1/2 inch from the top portion of the deck .
Step 4: Use an electric screwdriver to secure the spindles. Ensure that the spindles are flush to the bottom portion of the deck.
Step 5: Measure and cut the 2-by-4 to the appropriate length. Secure each to the spindles.
