How to Clean Boat Seats

How to Build Pontoon Boat Seats

The deck on a pontoon boat is extremely big and open. Adding chairs is a great way to relax on your boat, alone or with family and friends. These seats can have pretty large storage spaces where you can store all of your favorite water gear and toys.

Materials needed:

  • 2-by-2 inch lumber

  • 2 vinyl cushions

  • Circular saw

  • Wood screws

  • Marine acrylic paint

  • Plywood

  • Brass hinges

  • Silicone caulk

1. Using your circular saw, cut out the side panels from the plywood. These side panels can be as big as you would like the seats to be. Make as many side panels as you need for the number of seats that you would like to have. Cut out the interior supports from the plywood.

2. Cut out the back and front mounting brackets out of the 2-by-2 inch lumber. Cut the mounting brackets out to the size that you would like them to be for the seat that you are making. Paint these and the side panels whatever color you would like and let it dry. Place the mounting brackets on the rear end of the seat to make sure that they fit. If they fit correctly, fasten them to the deck. Put the side panels at the end of the mounting brackets. Using the screwdriver, put in some screws to keep them in place.

3. Cut the back fascia to the size that you would like it to be to fit the chair that you are making. Paint the fascia the color that you would like and let it dry thoroughly. Place the back fascia to the end panels. Using the screwdriver, put in some screws to keep it in place. Using silicone caulk, caulk all of the joints.

4. Cut the seat back, front fascia, top rail and the seat to the size that you would like so that it fits the seat. Caulk all of these pieces using the silicone caulk and paint them the color that you would like them to be. Let them dry thoroughly. Put the front fascia on the side panels.

5. Put in all of the supports for the inside of the chair. Secure them to the rear and front mounts. Also, make certain that they are connected to the front fascia. Put the hinge on the back panel. Put in the top rail and the back panel. Set the seat panel in its correct place and connect the hinges to the top of the seat panel. Using silicone caulk, caulk all of the joints for these pieces. Add some cushions to your chair.
